32nd National Junior Boys and Girls Taekwondo Championship ...

ITANAGAR, Nov 18: The 32nd National Junior Boys and Girls Taekwondo Championship-2012 was declared open by Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun amid a huge gathering this afternoon. Altogether, 31 teams comprising of 600 players are participating in the five-day mega event in 10 different categories.
Addressing the participants coming from various parts of the country, the Chief Minister said ?Make new friends for life and understand each other?s culture and traditions not enemies from the competitions so that the unity in diversity of India remains intact forever?.
Stating that Arunachal Pradesh is a ?unique? state with 26 major indigenous tribes and over 100s of sub tribes, the culture, language, customs and traditions of which are uniquely distinct from each other, Tuki urged them to enjoy the warm hearted tribal hospitality of the people during their stay in the state.
?My sincere advise to the participants is no matter you lose or win, you must maintain sportsmanship throughout the tournament,? said Tuki adding that winning or losing is secondary but the will to participate and emerge a formidable competitor matters most. This championship would become a benchmark in the history of sports in our country with regards to discipline and sportsmanship, he felt.
Citing examples of boxing queen MC Mary Kom, who despite being from a poor family background attained the pinnacle of success through her grit, determination, sincerity, discipline and training, he urged the youths to take a cue from her success.
Acknowledging the immense talent of the youths and for the laurels they have brought for the state and the country as well, he said, your talent is unquestionable, you have carved a niche in world arena in weightlifting, mountaineering, karate, archery, chess, badminton and taekwondo. Taekwondo besides being a wonderful sports of stamina, zest, and intelligence offers entertainment, recreation, physical exercise and most importantly imbibes in us the important human qualities like discipline and teamwork, asserted Tuki.
Expressing his hope that the Comprehensive state sports policy of the state which is ?pragmatic and uniform? would provide adequate incentives to sportspersons and boost sporting events and broad base sports activities in the state so that people from different parts of the society gets a fair chance to show their talent at all levels, CM said the vision is to make the state a vibrant leading edge state in sports through target oriented action plans for diverse activities including coaching, training, counseling and participation at various levels of tournaments and championships of all sports disciplines.
The govt is seriously committed to encourage and facilitate the young talents and explore their potentials in their chosen fields of sporting activities. There is a cash incentive even for qualifying for the Olympics besides hefty rewards for the medal winners. All this would attract more talented youths to take up games and sports professionally and bring pride and glory to the nation, state, and to themselves.
The Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI) and union Ministry of Sports and Youth affairs for facilitating the national level event in the state.
Further, the Chief Minister announced to provide fund for construction of a multi-purpose sports hall in the state capital this year for conducting such tournaments in future. He also announced to construct sports complexes and mini stadiums in the districts as well.
The Member of Parliament of Bhutan National Assembly, Dupthup, who was guest of honour during the function, while commending the enthusiasm and energy of the participants from all over India said, there is every reason to be enthusiastic as Taekwondo gives lot many things to the player. The importance given to taekwondo can be seen from the fact that it is next to national game archery in Bhutan.
There are some cultural and topographical similarities between Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh, and I would love to visit Arunachal again, the MP, who is leading a cultural exchange team to the state, said.
Earlier, TFI Secretary General Praveen Kumar, in his speech, informed that the winners of the ongoing championship would participate in the national championship to be held in Bhopal from January 18 to 26 next year.
?They will also participate in the Senior National Taekwondo Championship to be held in Bangalore from April next year,? he added.
The Inaugural function was also attended by Urban Development Minister Rajesh Tacho, Parliamentary Secretary Padi Richo, MLA Techi Kaso, Adviser to CM Kalikho Pul, Sports and Youth Affairs Secretary Indra Mallo Jain, chairman, Technical Committee of TFI, PA Gurung, Arunachal Taekwondo Association president Kipa Kaha, political secretary to CM, Bamng Tagog among many others.
