Lubbock, Texas ? Kansas University?s volleyball team opened its Big 12 Conference season with a sweep of Texas Tech, 25-16, 25-16, 25-15, on the road Saturday at United Spirit Arena.
In the match, the Jayhawks (13-2 overall, 1-0 Big 12) collected 10 more kills and 12 more blocks than the Red Raiders and finished with a hitting percentage of .371, KU?s highest mark in over a year.
?We had great balance tonight,? coach Ray Bechard said. ?When you have just seven errors in a three-set match on the road against a Big 12 team, you?re doing a lot of things right. Erin (McNorton) moved the ball around really well tonight, and I was very happy with Cathy (Carmichael). Her nine kills and no errors is what we need out of her.?
Junior middle blocker Caroline Jarmoc led KU with 11 kills and seven blocks.
Senior middle blocker Tayler Tolefree and freshman outside hitter Tiana Dockery both chipped in six blocks on a night when KU had 14 rejections to Tech?s two.
Tolefree also led the team with a .583 efficiency mark.
Kansas will return home to host No. 19 Iowa State at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
